Missions...Again

Today I am just thinking. Will you think with me?

With respect to missions, ours is a world of opportunity, challenge, blessing. North American Christians have an exalted, glorified view of missions and unfortunately find little motivation to give generously that the Gospel might spread into all the world. A recent poll in found most are "satisfied" with the mission efforts of the church. Brothers and sisters, our missions efforts are meager at best!

Missions work is not always pleasant. Consider the following from an older article by Dick Marcear. The article was entitled "Is Sacrifice in Your Vocabulary?"

I praise God for those willing to go to missions fields. I have vowed to God and self that I will help them go. Most North American Christians, basking in the luxury and blessings of our land, could give a week's salary to missions and never really miss anything important, and certainly nothing vital or necessary. I fear that our vision is to little and our satisfaction too large.

Just thinking, I wonder what a week's salary from every member of the church in North America would add to... I wonder what approximately 2% of our total income would amount to... I'm frankly afraid to push the pencil on that question. Others may if they are so inclined, but I am still just wondering.
