Thinking About....Consistency

The car in front of me had two bumper stickers. I probably wouldn't have noticed except the signs seemed so opposite. One was a plea for "business professionalism." The other said, "Is that your face or did your throat throw up?" The one spoke for ethics, courtesy, and respect. The other was uncouth and potentially offensive. Those two stickers carried a "mixed message." They were inconsistent.

Mixed messages are everywhere in our world. They are on cars, they are more often in our lives. We struggle within ourselves. We intend one thing and do another. We say one thing and mean another. We disappoint one another, but often we ourselves are the most disappointed.

What can we do about mixed messages? Something must be done. They destroy friendships, they divide homes. Parents have trouble understanding kids, and vice versa. Marriages break up.

Inconsistency is a part of humanity. When I am inconsistent, please forgive me and keep on liking me.
