Honduras Bible study

Effective ministry and mission work is a team effort. Jan and I have shared ministry and mission work for 55 years! Countless people have encouraged us, supported us, loved us, and prayed for us. In addition to the customary "Brother Bob" or "Hermano Bob," I am also known as dad and papa (pa-paw). One of my favorite breakfasts is huevos fritos, frijoles, and tortillas, with hot sauce and a cup of rich coffee! The greatest joy of my life is being part of the kingdom of Jesus my King. My #1 priority is to advance "kingdom things" and to help develop authentic "kingdom people." I seek to share the Good News about Jesus everywhere I go, helping people find Jesus and helping people mature as disciples of Jesus. One of the greatest blessings of my life is to be loved by many people around the world!

THIS MONTH'S FEATURE ARTICLE: MISSION WORK WITHOUT THE GOSPEL?

Is taking the gospel to the lost important? In many places mission work is struggling in the contemporary church. Fewer dollars are available. Missions is redefined so funds can be used to maintain the home base. Funds go to "mission works" that make little difference in the advance of the gospel and the growth of the kingdom. Taking the gospel to the unsaved multitudes is not a priority!

Do any these scenarios describe mission work in your church?

  • Do you struggle to find works that are generating new Christians, new churches, and kingdom growth?
  • Do mission results seem meager? Are results no longer reported? The number of new Christians and new churches?
  • Are the results so meager that mentioning them is embarrassing?
  • A Barna study suggests a reason for the changing shape of mission work: "Only 29% of Christians believe that reaching unreached people around the world is very urgent."
